Honda’s rugged Passport is getting more meaningful off-road upgrades, tougher styling, and additional standard equipment for 2027. The timing is good: Passport sales are up 13.5% year-to-date (according to Honda), and the off-road-focused TrailSport accounts for roughly 80% of all Passport sales.
This is good news for Honda; typically, higher-trim packages or special versions drive higher profits for automakers that choose that approach. It’s a double-edged sword: do it right, and make more money. Do it wrong, and an automaker can harm its well-earned reputation. Honda looks to be making adjustments that show TrailSport is more than just an appearance package. Honda continues to lean into its adventure vehicle strategy while reinforcing its reputation as one of the largest automakers building vehicles in America.
What’s New?
- The 2027 Passport gains 9.65 inches of ground clearance, up 1.4 inches from before and more than both the Subaru Outback Wilderness and Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road.
- Honda engineers redesigned nearly 70% of the major suspension components, improving approach, departure and breakover angles while also targeting better steering feel and everyday drivability.
- The upgrades pair with Honda's new Honda Trail Experience (HTX) app, which helps drivers navigate challenging terrain and record their off-road adventures.
- Amber LED hood-scoop lights add a more aggressive look.
- Fender flares are more pronounced.
- A resculpted lower front fascia gives the TrailSport a tougher, more purposeful stance.
TrailWatch cameras and a heated steering wheel are now standard across all Passport TrailSport models.
Why It Matters
Honda isn't just adding cosmetic upgrades. The suspension overhaul and added ground clearance suggest the Passport is moving closer to serious off-road territory while maintaining the daily-driver comfort buyers expect.
The 2027 Honda Passport doubles down on what buyers already like about the TrailSport. More capability, more standard equipment, and a tougher look should help keep Passport's sales momentum rolling when it arrives in dealerships fall of 2026.
